Brigid Simmonds, chief executive of the British Beer and Pub Association, has issued a response to the figures release by the Pubs Code Adjudicator that show that there have been 376 enquiries in the four months since the launch since the Pubs Code came into law.
“The number of inquiries shows there is already very good awareness among tenants and leaseholders of the new system and that is to be welcomed,” she said. “Clearly, the legislation is very complex and there are still different interpretations of some aspects.
“One task ahead will be to achieve greater clarity through additional guidance for both companies and lessees; I am sure this will be developed, in time and is very much something we would welcome.
“You would also expect to see a far greater number of inquiries at the outset of the new regime, and it will take time to gain a fuller picture of the ongoing demand for use of the statutory system’s services.”
