Named as the Pier of the Year 2016, Cleethorpes is hitting the market just ten months after the completion of an extensive £4.7m two year transformation project.

The pier, which hosts a restaurant, tea room and large ballroom that can cater for up to 800 people, has been put up for sale for an undisclosed amount.

“I understand that there will be some who see this decision to sell as yet another failure for the pier, but they couldn’t be more wrong,” said Bryan Huxford, the pier’s owner.

“I have achieved what I set out to do in bringing this beautiful building back to life and giving local residents something to be proud of.

“However, as a successful businessman I know that you should play to your strengths.”

Despite having invested heavily in the project, Huxford said he felt it would be better for the pier, the surrounding resort and local residents, to hand the opportunity to a buyer who has the expertise to achieve the business’ full potential.

“Unfortunately, I am not at the right time in life to start to learn a new industry, but despite that, and my lack of experience in the food and drink sector, we have already shown what a success Cleethorpes can be,” he added.

The building is listed for sale with Clark Weightman of Hull, who have stated that it will be sold with all fixtures and fittings including £450,000 worth of kitchen equipment.
